Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where is Costanoa?

Costanoa is located on Rossi Road, off of Highway 1 (also known as Cabrillo Highway). We are approximately 25 miles from Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, and 10 miles from Davenport and Pescadero. For more information, click here

2. Where does the name Costanoa come from?

Long before maps and diaries were inked on Spanish galleons, the indigenous people, the Ohlones, sang the name of this place: "Dancing on the brink of the world." For hundreds of years, 40 Ohlone tribelets lived on the coast, each with its own territory, language and chief. The Spanish explorers called these tribes Costeños-coast people. Later, English-speaking settlers changed the name to Costanoans. From this we took our name.

Today, descendants of these native peoples call themselves Ohlones. The early settlers here found the Ohlones to be peaceful and friendly, offering them food and travel guidance. The Ohlone legends and spirit live on today. The Cabrillo Highway (Highway 1) and Highway 92 in Half Moon Bay follow the original Ohlone footpaths. Please enjoy and explore these protected natural areas in the spirit of the Ohlones: "Take only pictures and leave only footprints."

3. Why are there no televisions in the rooms?

It is sometimes necessary to disconnect from civilization in order to rest and relax; at Costanoa, we take pleasure in helping you do so. We encourage our guests to get out and Discover the Pace of Nature. As such, we are more than happy to provide you with a list of activities to enjoy in the great outdoors.

4. Will there be a bathroom in my room/cabin/tent?

The only accommodations at Costanoa with ensuite bathrooms are those in the Lodge. All of our other accommodations use the Comfort Stations, which are the shared bathroom facilities featuring indoor and outdoor showers, a sauna, heated floors, and an outdoor fireplace. For more information, please see our accommodations page.
