Event Details
A dramatic, spectacular conjunction of the two brightest planets, Venus & Jupiter, will appear closest to each other right around the 1st of March. In these coming days & weeks until then, WATCH on as many clear evenings as you can, as the two brilliant white dots move closer to each other in the western sky during twilight and early night. Venus will be the lower of the two (but brighter) — until they “switch places” upon crossing on ~ 3/1 . (After that, Jupiter will be the lower one, fading a lot in brightness as it recedes around toward the far side of the sun.) Best go out and look while there’s still some of the blue glow of twilight to the west: If you wait much longer after darkness sets in, Venus will SET. … Aside from the striking sight when the two planets will appear right next to each other SOON, you can really notice NOW their night-to-night convergence toward the coming spectacle. Those two celestial bodies are earning their names as “planets” — from the Greek word for “wanderers”.
Venus (magnitude -4) will meet Jupiter (magnitude -2.1) in the constellation Pisces at a distance of 29′ 24”.
